I don't care what people think. I am just saying that's how it is here. LIke you can't enjoy a car meet anymore. People want to start fights with you.
I totally agree that this is the way it is, but the question is; Why is it this way? The answer to the question lies in what I said to you. Humans, in general, feel small and insignificant in the world. They attempt to overcome this feeling by attaching themselves to or associating themselves with things that they perceive to have some value, thus, by association, they might have some value as well. Since their self-value is derived from the things they associate themselves with, they become extremely cliquish and defensive of these things when they perceive these things to be threatened by others, even if it is just an alternate or opposing opinion on the subject. This is the root cause for why "
People want to start fights with you."
Take, professional sports for example. Some years back when I was director of a life rehabilitation counseling center, I was working with a young man who had attempted suicide. One of the guy's problems was that most things in his life that held value to him had been taken away due to some stupid mistakes and injustice. There was no denying that he was in a bad situation and that his life was complicated and was going to remain so for some time to come, and that getting out of the mess was going to require a great deal of work. But the real problem was that the boy felt no self-worth as a result of what happened. It just so happened that on a day I took him to a restaurant to get a bite to eat the was a big sporting event in town that day. People were driving around with team flags on their cars and carrying on like fanatical sports generally fans do. I ask the young man to observe this behavior while we sat there eating and looking out the restaurant window.
After a while, I ask him to explain to me why he thought these people were acting this way? His answer was, "
They are supporting their team." I said, "
Yes, but why are they supporting this team? How does it benefit them personally to support this team? Do they know them personally? Probably not. Does the team even know their name? Probably not. Is their putting flags on their cars and hanging out the windows of their cars showing team hand signals and shouting going to actually affect the outcome of the game? No! Would every member of their team switch to an opponent team if that team paid them a higher salary? YES! So why are these people so fanatical loyal about supporting a team that has zero loyalty to them and does not even know they exist?"
The young man shook his head and said, "
I don't know. Can you tell me why?" I responded and said, "
The Illusion of Value." I explained to him that humans feel small and insignificant in this world and so they seek to gain value to themselves by attaching themselves to things that they receive have value. This is why they say "MY TEAM." as if they own it. The reality is, they do not OWN the team and it is nottheirs, and the players on that team do not know them. The team holds no true regard for the fans. it is money making venture to make the players and the owners rich. In reality, the players hold not loyalty to the fans, the city, or the owners. They are not playing for the fans, they are playing for themselves. However, these fans will fight and argue and even become violent in support of their teams. Why? The illusion of value. They have bought into the illusion that by associating themselves with a team, which they perceive as being something of great importance, they are important by association.
Of course this was the whole reason this man had tried to kill himself. He felt he had lost all the things that were of value in his life and there was no reason to go on. But the truth, he had lost nothing of true value, only things that held illusions of value. Once he learned to value things of real value, he was able to understand his true worth as a human and he went on to become very successful in his life.
All these people that you are complaining about that cause the rukus at these events, have the same problem that young man did. They derive their self-worth from the things they associate with that they perceive to be of importance and value. Like sports fans fighting for their team, they will fight to the death defend their position on this or that car, this or that mod, or upgrade, etc. The reality of it is, like sports, at the end of the day, these things are just meaningless hobbies, games, and pastimes that have no real value or importance in the grand scheme of things. They are fun things to participate in, but should not be taken too seriously.
