I keep getting these really horrible comments but it's rare to get a normal comment. How can i get a nice audience watching my videos? I have tried changing my video topics before but still get the same mean comments, it's like they can only say the same horrible things about me/my videos. And i can't just ignore it because its all the time, pretty much every comment and it makes me want to quit youtube.

Well, I just had a look at your channel - and specifically, the comment section of a number of your more popular videos.

Before we go into other people's comments made on your channel's videos and how to deal with those, let's put things in perspective:

Below is a screenshot of some of YOUR RESPONSES to comments made by your viewers on a video that has 1M views(!)... and I've seen A LOT of those responses you give across your comment section.

Let's start a discussion thread below:
Do you believe those are the type of answers you should give to your audience's questions?

Why shouldn't I give thoese responses? They can clearly read right? So they should use that ability instead of asking about something so obvious. This is about people abusing creators and acting like we aren't humans on the other side of the screen.

Frankly, if you want nice comments on the video, you must show that you care for your subscribers. Regardless of how dumb their comment might be, you must show that you care for your community by respectfully responding to them. Remember, you need them and not the other way around. They will happily find another content creator who is in the same niche as yours! If you don't want to reply to their "comments", learn to ignore those questions rather than insulting/dropping off such a comment that might hurt their feelings and ego, and that will end up with them not returning to your channel, will, in long term just hurt your channel growth and stability.

Then they can find another creator. I dont want people like that anyway. This isn't even on topic.

You can THINK those responses, but should never EVER post them!

For starters, change your mindset - it's not abuse at all - let's not forget that not everybody has your IQ, interest, or specific knowledge of your niche. And, overall, being a nice person doesn't cost any money.

So, even if they post 'dumb questions' in the comments of whatever kind (which I get A LOT of), there are four reasons why you should ALWAYS respond in a nice manner:

(1) We all know it's a numbers game - so let's get some perspective here: I get about 1,000,000 views per month on my channel - say 3% of those bother to ENGAGE with a like, share, watch later bookmark etc - that's 30,000 people - and out of those, 3% will bother to post a comment - that's 900 comments per month, or 30 comments a day across all my vids on my entire channel. How SPECIAL should I treat those people who comment, given it's about 1-out-of-every-1,000 views? (hence, 999 of them never bothered)

(2) THEY took the time to engage with your content; they consumed part/all of the video(s), and clearly, something sparked their interest (ie what song, game, platform, etc) for them to now POST a comment, so, THE LEAST you, as the creator, can do is ACKNOWLEDGE their existence, show appreciation towards them taking time out of their day to leave a comment, and answer WHATEVER question they have (as stupid/dumb/repetitive you actually think it might be);

Examples:
'Thanks for stopping by. The background music in this video is called XYZ by XYZ'
'Appreciate you taking the time to comment. Afraid this isn't on mobile.'
'Awesome to see your comment here. The game title is XYZ.'
'Thx 4 for Q. This game is called XYZ made by XYZ. Which was your favorite part?'

(3) THEY will be notified of your response, likely visit your channel again to see what you answered, be impressed you took the time to actually respond, and who knows, they'll subscribe or watch your old/new content again, and that's how you build a community around your channel with hardc0re followers who will now start watching your every move;

(4) ANY engagement on your videos sends YouTube algorithm a signal that there's activity happening and that's never a bad thing.

For what it's worth - I reply with a similar answer mentioned in the above examples to EVERY COMMENT made on my channel. Do you know how many people are surprised I'm even reading their messages, nevermind responding to them?

It builds SOOO MUCH goodwill with your audience - not just for those few people who actually take the time to post the question, but especially for the many MANY lurkers who never leave a comment BUT read every single comment on every single video of yours, and form their own -silent- opinion of you!

Do me a favor - try doing this for a couple of weeks, see how people will be AMAZED by your answers, and report back here on your progress, please! I'll set a reminder to revisit this post

Well said, Nody.

One small note - unless the comment is plainly offensive, racist, political, etc, in which case I delete the comment as it's not adding any value to the conversation/video, I ALWAYS respond:

Examples:
-- "I HATE this video!" -- Thanks for stopping by - which part didn't you like?
-- "I can't believe you skipped/missed that important point" -- Appreciate you taking the time to stop by. I'm always eager to learn - how do you think I should have done it?

By NOT being defensive about whatever they said, and giving a response like that, you disarm them, which surprises them! And you're more than likely to see them engaging more in the future, knowing you're open-minded wrt feedback. And heck, you might learn a thing or two what to potentially change in your next video!

My 2 cents.

Well i can't just change my voice so asking what i should change isn't really an option.

Did you not read my post?
Can we please tone it down a few notches? I'm not the bad guy here.

Did YOU read my initial response which started with:
"Before we go into other people's comments made on your channel's videos and how to deal with those, let's put things in perspective"

I AM talking about the 'dumb questions' and YOUR responses to them - I asked you a simple question, so we can have a civil & educational discussion here.

Let me ask again: Do you believe those are the type of answers you should give to your audience's questions?

What are you talking about? OF COURSE you can change your 'online voice'. I gave a couple of simple examples.

It does require some initial effort on your side to contain your first reaction to blast them, but you'll see how quickly the abuse/hate/horrible comments will stop once you treat all your comments with kindness and open-mind to learn.

I am tired of people not listening to me. Yet i didn't ask about how i should respond to people. So maybe don't try to help when you aren't going to anyway? Again, i don't want them as my audience. Please read.

How the hell am i supposed to change my voice? You want me to use a voice changer? You want me to be fake as hell? I am talking about how people say my voice is weird, how i am so annoying to these horrible people, i have gotten hundreds of comments now just about people saying i sound like i am crying, sad, sick, depressed, whatever the hell bs they can come up with. I am sick of it. How the hell do i make these horrible idiots leave me alone already? That is all i want.

Not listening to you? Please re-read my responses above: I'm addressing the ROOT CAUSE of what's happening to you right now.

The way YOU are responding to people leaving 'stupid comments' on your videos is very likely what's at the basis of why people are jumping all over you, your videos and your type of comments.

And I told you I'm not talking about those comments. So yes you aren't reading anything I am saying. I already said this multiple times. You are the one who should read my responses.

No need to be fake at all. Only an adjustment in your demeanor towards all the comments you see on your videos.

Are you familiar with Gary Vaynerchuk? Anyone interested in social media / marketing knows of him, and has consumed some of his content.

When you have a moment, go read his very interesting article on EMPATHY / COMPASSION / KINDNESS on social media and building a business:

I have empathy. It's the people calling my voice weird who don't have empathy. All I do is talk normally in my videos and people think I am some sort of freak because I am autistic. So thanks for being like them.

The fact that you're not even willing to consider that you're doing something wrong in the way you respond to your video comments is rather telling. I'm an outside party looking at your situation, wanting to have a discussion, but you're VERY defensive in pretty much every single one of your responses to me.

And, in the end, it's me for "being one of them"?! Goodness.

I'll leave you with your situation and wish you all the best.

Im not even responding to comments. They are talking about how i sound in my videos. Just read, listen to me for once, how many times do i have to say it? I am just talking in the video and they hate how i sound. Im not saying some horrible stuff to people in the video they comment under. Why don't you understand that?
