I'm really going to be honest with this, clickbait thumbnails is why many of these creators do have millions of subscribers and while you don't like them it is a known fact that it works as long as it is related to the content. It's just a fact of life. I'd love to put really super scary thumbnails on mine but the problem with my market is that most of the thumbnails used that are scary are copyrighted pictures and I'm just not as gutsy as others I guess. I have to learn to do it with photoshop I suppose. Something I don't have a lot of time for. Plus, there is a limit on how "scary" we can create them. No blood, no weapons, nor real horror just clickbait pictures. Kind of a drag.

I was saying that for me to use the strategy of choosing a thumbnail that would work on me, is not a good course for me to take because I pretty much have a built-in mechanism that rejects almost all clever marketing techniques because they are intellectually insulting to me.
I THINK NOTI have noticed a trend on thumbnails from leading tubers. This is the use of a stupid face or look. One of my favorite OG Tubers is Derrel Eves. This guy has thirty Gold Button channels under his belt. I just grabbed a screenshot from his channel home page.

Here is a screenshot from the channel of another top Tuber, Sean Cannell of Think Media.

Okay, so you can clearly see an obvious trend here. Even here on TB, the TB videos generally have a thumbnail featuring someone making an exaggerated face of some kind.
To be quite honest, these thumbnails turn me off and make me not want to click on the video, but it seems that for most people they are very successful. Why do you think these kinds of thumbnails are so good?
trueOn some videos, like reaction videos, it would make sense. But on other videos, it would just be clickbait, and clickbait can always backfire. Don't you hate when your videos are click-repellent?
