This is something I struggle with myself. The easiest way to get people to stay longer is to BAIT them. Baiting an audience is the technique of holding back the very thing you know they came to see. You talk about it and say, "It is coming" but never show it until near the end of the video. You are using the proverbial CARROT, to get them to stay until the end.

This is the technique that all news shows use. They list the topics they are gonna talk about during the newscast, but do not tell you the order. They know which topic is the topic that is of the most interest and they know that if they cover that topic at the start, the audience will leave. So, they hold that topic back until the end. Before each break, they will mention it to keep your hopes up. They will say things like, "Coming UP, will cover this interesting topic" but the next segment will come and go with only a partial mention of it. This is a highly successful, tried, and true way to keep the audience from changing the channel.

For me though, I will not use this tactic no matter how successful it is. I consider "Baiting" the audience to be low because it is a manipulation of human emotion. As a former successful salesman, I was trained in all of these techniques to manipulate people using their emotions against them. I hated every moment of it and myself for using them. I worked hard to rid myself of the instinct to resort to these things. I want people to like me for who I am, no mask, no tricks. I may never be famous, but at least you know that when you are dealing with me, you are dealing with the real me. Love me, Like me, or Hate me, at least you know I am being honest.

Live streams are a good, but ask yourself do you have the gift of gab? Do you like being around people? The more extroverted you are the better you'll do at live streams. If you're a semi-hermit like me, you'll feel like blowing your brains out after every live stream. That defeats the purpose of everything were doing in our own businesses.

In the end you'll have to build everything around your skills, personality and strengths. Either way live stream or regular upload, having 1,000 video backlog of clickable, searchable videos will solve any watch time problem.
You are the best

Livestreams have been one of the most effective ways for me to increase watch hours. In fact, this is what I find - Let's say I do a 10 minute video and I have a 50% AVD. I'm getting about 5 minutes of watch time per view.

But let's say I do a livestream. For 1 hour I'm getting 60 minutes of view time. I might have only 10-20 live viewers, but that's (low end) 600 minutes of watch time. For the replay, my AVD is low, but people are often watching more than the 5 minutes I'd get from a 10 minute video. Not only do I get a jump in watch hours from the livestream, my livestream replays often give me more watch time per view than my standard videos.

Awesome tip. Have yet to try livestreams, will definitely consider it. Thanks!
