I have a couple of future video projects in mind that may require screen recording. It really doesn't matter whether the software is paid for or if it's free. Any recommendations?
I'm jealous. I only have the ATEM Mini ProThe Atem Mini Pro ISO can record 4 separate HDMI sources to an external SSD drive. The 4 sources might be 1 comptuer plus 1-2 camera angles for example. The way its saved on the SSD harddrive is in a ready to go Davinci Resolve video editing project. So just open it up in Resolve (free editing software) and you are ready to edit your multicamera recording. One note, this Atem Mini Pro ISO is 1080p only, no 4k (but nobody wants to watch a 4k computer monitor recorded on YouTube anyway! Way too small).
Don't overlook the Elgato 4k60 S+. It is stand-alone hardware or can work as a capture card. It supports resolutions up to 4k/60fps. Much like the ATEM Mini Pro ISO, it can record to external media or to an SD card but only one input.I have a couple of future video projects in mind that may require screen recording. Thanks for sharing! One of the best software screen recorders is Camtasia. Some of the features it has include tracking the mouse cursor, highlighting the mouse and clicks (and making a click noise if you want) and can dynamically zoom into the active window/dialog as you demo something. Helpful for small screens. However, this is a paid app.
There are free screen recording features built into apps like OBS, but they lack that dynamic zooming into the active dialog and the graceful handling of the mouse cursor. Some people emulate the highlighted mouse by downloading a windows cursor "theme pack" that just has a yellow circle behind all your mouse cursors. You have to set and unset it in windows settings - not automatic part of OBS. But hey this solution is free! (This solution is also OS specific, may not work on all OSes).
And last but not least, some people don't want to use software at all! OBS can bog down some computers or interfere with some software, so in my case I use an external HDMI recorder from Black Magic Design. I currently have the Atem Mini Pro ISO which is a great little box - but definitely not free!
