Wow reading this. I use a lot of hashtags. Then I had a video that hit 600+ views really fast. So I went back to see what hashtags I used and noticed I did not use any. So we might be onto something here.

Reading the YT article it says "No spaces: Hashtags donΓÇÖt contain any spaces. If you want to have two words in a hashtag, you can join them together (#TwoWords, #twowords)."
So why does TubeBuddy give us 2 word tags? See the example below.
