YouTube Question Smart Playlist setup

I'm setting up my playlists right now. My question is "can you overuse playlists with too many categories?" That is, can you have so many, they become ineffective? Is there a downside in having one playlist highlighting "fun stuff", then another playlist about unique things about that city, then another about a particular large development in the city, another about the home being one of our listings, etc. A listing might be in 6-7 playlists?

Well in my opinion, playlists can definitely provide organization to your channel and can allow you to give some variety to your audience but... It might not be the best idea to have a vlog playlist, vlogging my dog playlist, vlogging my moms dog playlist, vlogging my neighbors dog playlistyou get the point.
I have one playlist for category of my channel.
1 for How to videos
1 for Tshirt Transformations
1 for vlogs
1 for bloopers

It's good that you're asking this question because not many people think that much into it, and @Andrew has been talking more about playlists in his channel reviews on feedback fridays and such. I have 180+ videos and quite a wide range of playlists, some with as little as 2 videos, some as large at 100 videos in a playlist. As long as they're relevant to your videos, and thought out well, they can be very benifitial.

Here's a few videos that might be helpful for you.

People are looking more into playlists ever since you might have seen a bump in your views thanks to the auto-generated user channel "YouTube Mix" playlist. May just find your channel's "YouTube Mix" playlist and build your playlists around that in the sequence YouTube made it for your MIX playlist. And then like others pointed out you can separate them with those how to playlists and other niches very effective strategy.
