I started making videos probably at the summer of 2013, sitting at my grandparents' house and making some random stuff in Windows Movie Maker.
Then I probably started making some MIDI music in Aria Maestosa. Some of stuff I made were a MIDI remake of "The Cutie Mark Crusaders' Theme" (yes, I'm an MLP fan, if not that, I wouldn't even start YouTube) and a song created around the chiptune of the keygen for Need For Speed: Underground 2 by Reloaded.
I also made 8-bit versions of these with GXSCC.
Then when I wanted to upload these videos (so 4 of them), but it turned out that I accidentally deleted the whole folder with all the stuff.
On May 20th 2014 I uploaded my first ever video on YouTube, it was some very cringy Polish video about me talking about the history of CocaCola, I didn't show my face, I just did voice over. I planned to make a next episode about Pepsi, but my computer was so slow at the time that I thought it wasn't worth it to spend around 50 hours of editing one single video with the quality that still sucked.
Before removing that whole channel I think I hit around 50 views on that video though.
Between 2014 and 2015 I started experimenting with many different types of videos, including English videos and music, they were much more cringy than the first one and I kinda regret making, BUT overall that time wasn't too bad - I learned how to edit videos with Vegas Pro (11 at the time) and how to make music with FL Studio (9 at the time) and Melodyne 3.1 - the last was a pitch editing software, like AutoTune, but much better.
I started watching many YTPMV/remix videos, like making one video into a remix of one song. I usually watched Polish remixes with YouTubers (that YT scene is still pretty active and talented) and MLP YTPMVs, especially WoodenToaster's Avast Fluttershy's A*s (remix of Avast Your A*s, this video is currently unlisted). I got more inspired by WoodenToaster's remixes and found out that he used FL Studio and Melodyne, so I started using that. My first remix was a kinda remake of Avast Fluttershy's A*s, but in a very early state (I later fully remade the remake, you can find it on YT).
Then I decided to start making remixes with Polish YouTubers. On June 9th 2015 I deleted my old channel and started a new one called SKIMER. I uploaded a first remix and started making a new one. Before I uploaded the second one I found out that the YouTuber remixed in the first video posted the video on his FB group. Then I uploaded another remix and sent it to the other YouTuber "singing" in it. He later reuploaded the remix and that's how I got my first 100 subs.
Later I kept making the remixes, changing my formulas a bit, eventually scrapping the YTPMV like style and going with the schmoyoho-like style of remixes. In the meantime I also tried to start other gaming channels, but that still didn't work.
In 2017 I asked JetCrew (Polish-Australian YT duo, currently on hiatus) for their Q&A that they could create a contest for the best remix or overall edit of their videos, the winner could win a T-shirt. About 2 months later they indeed made that contest and I even won it, JetCrew showing my remix on the video and sending me a T-shirt (I still have it). That's how for the first time one of my videos got 10k views. It was also the first time I made the instrumental for the remix on my own.
In February 2018 I reached 1k subs on SKIMER, however that wasn't really important - I didn't have the minimum watchtime to be monetized (not that I earned anything anyway).
I uploaded a Globglogabgalab (that character was a meme at the time) remix of Blue (Da Ba Dee) and reached 100k views on one video for the first time. I'd get more if not the fact that couple days later Grandayy uplaoded a similar remix. Then I was struggling a bit with the formulas of my remixes. Even though I spent a lot of time on my Endigo-style PewDiePie remix, no one really cared about it and it still has poor views. However at the beginning of November something drastically changed.
There was a parody series of MLP made by a Polish YouTuber, very weak drawing, no animation, poor jokes, but technically that's why it got popular. I decided to remix the newest episode of it just for fun and because I haven't posted any good Polish remix in a while. I posted this on November 11th 2018 and just left it as it was. It was a remix inspired by Tridashie's "Pony Girl" parody and I consider it to be one of the worst videos on my channel - I just made it as quickly as I could, I only made it good enough so I could upload it.
I just left the video as it was and carried on. Then it blew up.
Now let's look back at the earlier sentence - "I consider it to be one of the worst videos on my channel"
As it turned I was the only one that thought it was bad.
The video went viral, reaching a million views within 2-3 months, it even started a trend of other remixers remixing that parody series.
Right now that remix is a second most popular remix of that series.
I uploaded couple more remixes from that series, every time getting around 250k views, I also posted a different remix, this time with a nirmal Polish YouTuber and to the new popular song. Views sucked for a bit, but then the remix blew up as well, reaching another million views within 6 months, it's currently the most viewed video on my channel.
Obviously all of that was enough for my channel to start getting monetized again.
Year 2019 went mostly weak. Remixes from that MLP parody series stopped getting good views anymore, just the series itself. On February I finally created a bank account and could eventually pay out my ad revenue, I think it was in total of around $300. Within that year I only made 3 successful videos, including another one going viral and reaching mollion views, however I barely earned any money from them - 2 of these remixes got fully claimed, 1 of them partially like a cover. I eventually started posting my remixes as singles to claim my own videos so the companies won't steal the money and also to get something extra from people streaming on sites like Spotify. I also started to add some other content than just remixes, I started making gameplays, Q&As, vlogs. No one cared though, I got bad views on these videos, despite the fact that these were the videos I orignally wanted to post on YT. On June I created my Fiverr account where people could get themselves custom remixes from me (my profile on it is SKIMER too, if you wanna know). I also uploaded some music every now and then.
2020 went pretty weirdly good so far. I didn't get any bombs when it comes to the SKIMER channel, but on February 1st after transforming one of my other dead channels I opened SKIMER4Fun where I started uploading all videos I couldn't upload on SKIMER, so obviously gameplay, vlogs, tutorials, tech tests. Couple days later I started collaborating with one of the biggest remix channels on YT (can't post the name here, not because NDA, I don't have it, rather just in case of privacy). It's been my best collaboration ever and I was able to afford more stuff to make my SKIMER4Fun videos better. Because of the virus I also started getting a lot of orders on Fiverr. Eventually I started my newest channel Xarty, English channel for let's plays and hopefully other stuff in the future stuff too. I didn't upload too much stuff for SKIMER, but soon I plan to change that.
That's how we ended up today.
