I'm trying to stream video from my river cam. Everything looks correct. But the URL provided to me is rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2

It points to a video that is scheduled for the year 2014.

What am I doing wrong?

I think you need to change the title of this thread to better reflect the topic of this thread, as the question it'self is interesting because I too have wanted to try and stream from a cam (I gather a river cam is an action cam?) I'm unsure of @Andrew might know anything more about this? If not, this would be a good question to direct towards "LiveStreaming Pros" who helped provide livestream services (via a similar action cam) for vidsummit.

How they did that, I have no idea and would love to know as well.

I was trying to find out what the URL of my live webcam. The YouTube Studio shows an URL rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2
Naturally I think that's the URL of my streaming webcam. But NOOoooo, that would be too easy. What is this rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2? Who cares.
To find the streaming video, go to YouTube and search for the name that I gave the streaming "light house cove river cam" and there it is - even easier!
It was so simple that the videos that show you how to create a streaming video, they don't tell you how to find the URL of the video. This makes a retired engineer go nuts!!!!

The RTMP link is used in your streaming software in order to connect to youtube and send your data. If you go to your live page and create a new stream it should give you a new link with a new key. You copy this information over to the streaming software and you are off running.

Some software has built-in functionality to stream to youtube so you only connect your account and then they do the setup for you. The more advanced setup I described first has benefits though because you can set the latency and other parameters for your stream in order to get a good viewer experience.

Hope this helps
Best regards
Daniel

I have to admit, it doesn't answer my question... what link do I give people to watch my stream? I can't find it anywhere in YT studio... like the OP, I just see the RTMP link.

@Stanley... omg, thank you so much! That's exactly what I was looking for. I remember clicking on the arrow and seeing so many social networks that I didn't even see the address *right there*! <3

If you're trying to stream video from your river cam and you've been given the URL rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2, this is an RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) URL, typically used for streaming live video to platforms like YouTube.

Here’s what you need to do to ensure everything works correctly:

1. Ensure You Have the Stream Key:

  • What it is: The URL rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2 is part of the RTMP stream URL, but you also need a stream key to complete the URL. The stream key is a unique identifier that allows YouTube to know where to send the video feed.
  • How to find it:
    1. Go to YouTube Studio.
    2. Click on the "Go Live" option.
    3. Under the "Stream" tab, you will see your stream key. Make sure to keep it secure and do not share it with others.
  • Example of complete URL:
    bash
    Copy code
    rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2/your-stream-key

2. Set Up Your Streaming Software:

  • Streaming software: You need software like OBS Studio, Streamlabs OBS, or XSplit to broadcast the video feed from your river cam.
  • How to configure:
    1. Download and install your preferred streaming software (e.g., OBS Studio).
    2. Open the software and go to the "Settings" menu.
    3. Navigate to the "Stream" section.
    4. Select "YouTube" as the service and paste the complete RTMP URL (including the stream key) into the appropriate field.
    5. Set up your river cam as the video source in the software.
    6. Click "Start Streaming" to begin broadcasting.

3. Check Your Internet Connection:

  • Bandwidth: Make sure your internet connection has sufficient upload bandwidth to handle live streaming, especially if you're streaming in high definition. A minimum of 5 Mbps upload speed is recommended for 720p streaming, and 10 Mbps for 1080p.

4. Ensure Your Firewall/Router Isn’t Blocking RTMP:

  • Network settings: Sometimes, firewalls or routers may block RTMP traffic. Ensure that port 1935 (used by RTMP) is open in your firewall and router settings.

5. Verify Stream Health on YouTube:

  • Stream health monitoring: Once you've started streaming, YouTube provides real-time analytics on the stream health. Check this dashboard in YouTube Studio to ensure the stream is running smoothly, and address any issues that arise, such as poor connection or dropped frames.

6. Troubleshoot Issues:

  • No video feed: Double-check that your river cam is correctly connected to the streaming software.
  • Stream not starting: Verify that the full RTMP URL (including the stream key) is correct and that your streaming software is configured properly.
