Hello
My YT videos have no linguistic content apart from the title and description.
I am working on translating these elements into a few different languages for subtitles so that they appear in the local language in various territories. What
this means in practice is that there are no subtitles as such but the video title and description are both translated into the local language.
During this exercise I have noticed some choices regarding, for instance, English and Spanish.
Taking English as an example - I am based in the UK - when I click to add subtitles I am prompted to set a channel language. In the drop-down menu there are multiple choices for English,
including "English (United Kingdom)" and just "English" .
My question is this. What difference is there to the reach of my video if I choose one above the other. At the moment I am selecting just "English".
I have noticed that now I have subtitles the video description won't update unless I update all the subtitles, regardless of language. So that means that any addition to
the Details section won't be visible unless translated and pasted into all the subtitles.
Now, one thing I have done in this whole process, whether it's a good idea or not I don't know, is that I have chosen "English (United States)" as one of the subtitle languages. This is
because I wonder if a video gets more exposure in a territory if it is subtitled in that language, even if it is still in English.
Anyone have any worthwhile experience of using subtitles on the title and description?
Thanks
