In my opinion, it really depends on the content and how you go about creating it. TikTok seems to have some advantages over shorts such as being able to use music. So far I have not heard about Tik Tokers getting in trouble for using copyrighted content like music and stand-up comedian bits and I even heard about music contracts with Tik Tok. But on YouTube, all of that is always open to copyright strikes.
However, there seems to be an audience for Shorts on YouTube. And as long as you can create great Shorts content and establish yourself and a Shorts content creator, you can definitely succeed.

Its all about you and what your priorities are. Do you prefer making short-form or long-form content? Are you concerned about making money with your videos or are you more concerned with collecting a large following? Shorts are great for exposure and they are fun. You can definitely grow a large audience quickly if you are good at what you do. But they do not hold the longterm value and evergreen capabilities (for the most part) that longer videos do, and they are not going to produce the same income either.
I have tried Shorts but only one got a bunch of views (500ish) I have had trouble with the music: half of the videos say something about copyright problem...I only use the music they offer but still get copyright stuff... Is it just me?
I tried my hand on a couple of shorts and they didn't do well but I don't regret it. I wanted to see what it was all about and not just wonder about it. I may try again if I get in the right mood. Your post concerns me a bit that your shorts are being flagged for copyright problems. I always get concerned about using pop music.
Funny thing is, I have used the same video and chosen the same music on Instagram Reels and it is fine...

All I've been doing is clipping out parts of streams or videos, doing slight re-edits on some and posting them. Last month my second channel (22 subs) had more views than my main through the shorts I posted but I only gained 2 subs.

So I just put myself on tiktok as well. One video has 175 views in 24 hours there - and 13 on youtube. How do I get youtube to recognize the view time on tiktok, twitter, facebook....?

This is why I've been super cautious using the music that they're offering when you upload or shoot shorts. I've just been sticking to using some royalty free music so I know it won't have any issues in the long run.
Well yes. Nowadays i seldom watch long videos i only watch shorts to make myself happier and make sure i won't ruin my schedule
Shorts are good but since I usually get a-lot of views on them it pulls my average view time way down which I don't like so I usually don't post them.
