Anybody else experiencing view drops over the last 2-3 month period?

Yes, I am uploading a bit different videos and views have dropped ...

Anyway, I want to grow my channel with the same public but different approach. I think my technical views channel topic isn't ever going to grow big, so I need a different approach but include the same audience and then more..

This is a frequent question. Everyone experiences it. It typically happens because of:
- Seasonality. Different niches are hit by different seasonality
- Analytics being behind or wrong. Can take 24-72 hours for analytic data to stabilize
- Bot purges. Impacts views, subs and watch hours

On top of what @SILTHW said you also have to take into account the fact that you're changing the content in what seems like a slightly drastic way according to your post. Basically, you gained an audience based on the content you were making, and thus if you change it you should expect a drop in views if the audience is not interested in the changes. Usually, we advise looking at what is making the views drop such as what you changed, and reconsider the changes.
