Inside the Keyword explorer section TubeBuddy shows a metric about "Competiton". This competition can be weighted or unweighted.

What would be the metrics that TubeBuddy uses to come out with the results of the competition score on the weighted and unweighted results?

I asked because much of the video performance supposedly depends on video content and presentation (title, thumbnails, description, etc) for the video to get any traction. So, if according to YouTube anybody has chance for a viral video, then how can we compare to competition for the video to be successful?

The competition isn't weight... the keyword is scored based on how well your channel is optimized for that keyword. The weighted score takes into account how well you are optimized for that keyword while the unweighted score looks at the keyword in general.
