How do you find your tags? Here's my search traffic impressions. For this video I changed my keywords in 2018, then crafted even better ranking keywords (tags) in 2020, and the blue spike in search traffic shows I got 130,000 views coming from search. I didn't change the title of the video, ONLY TAGS were changed.
Some say you shouldn't rely on search traffic, but if you don't include search as an option, you're leaving potential views on the floor. The graphs and data don't lie, as "unimportant" as youtube and others are trying to make tags out to be.

Obviously I used the TubeBuddy research tools. And then I think to myself "if I was looking for this video, what type of search terms would I type in?"How do you find your tags?
I would welcome your source for this since it directly contradicts what YouTube continually says and it was mentioned in several of the recent Search and Discovery videos on Creator Insider. Point us to where YouTube has said this is the case?Tags do nothing to help the video to get views! KEYWORD in title and description and saying those KEYWORD or TITLE in your video help the Algorithm to understand what your video is about so it can show the right video to the right viewer!
Obviously I used the TubeBuddy research tools. And then I think to myself "if I was looking for this video, what type of search terms would I type in?"
I type in a range of combinations and styles. For example, I do a lot of dinosaur drawing tutorials. If I was to release a video on drawing a t rex head... there's several ways of spennling t rex
I'd go "how to draw a t rex head" "how to draw a tyrannosaurus head" "drawing a tyrannosaurus head" "tyrannosaurus head drawing" "tyrannosaurus head drawing tutorial" I'm not sure if the order of words matters, but sometimes when I'm looking for something, I might put the words in a mixture of ways.
King Kong vs Godzilla are 2 characters. Realistically it shouldn't matter how you type it in, because it's still hitting both characters, but I still go "king kong vs godzilla" "godzilla vs king kong" "godzilla vs kong" and all other sorts of variations of it.
You only get ONE option for the title, but you have 500 characters to work with for tags, so you have a range of options to work with. Sometimes it does take some creative thinking, and the tubebuddy keyword tools help give you even more ideas on what you can choose, and just how popular and competitive those terms are.
They say tags don't matter, but I like having higher impressions in search than low impressions, because every impression, no matter how small, is another opportunity to be found and clicked.
Creator Insider did a video on Tags just don't remember which one and Check your video u upload go down on SHOW MORE look at tags tell me what it say!?I would welcome your source for this since it directly contradicts what YouTube continually says and it was mentioned in several of the recent Search and Discovery videos on Creator Insider. Absolutely your 100 correct! You are making the point for me. People make blanket statements "tag do nothing..." when they still serve a semantic purpose that IS very useful. While they talk "misspelling" it is actually any semantic relationship. Machine Learning is poor at semantic relationships and the more help and hints you provide, the better off you are. You should absolutely still make sure you are covering common misspellings, etc. as those details DO impact views.
Tags use has changed, but to say they don't matter is incorrect.
