This is a pretty general question. I'd suggest simply clicking on any of the threads already in this thumbnail section and see what suggestions have already been given to others, and then apply those lessons to your thumbnails. Things like composition, good use of colour, good use of saturation, balance and contrast will always help, and don't forget, keep it simple. Don't splatter your thumbnails full of text that no one's going to read anyway
