Hi, everyone. Just wanted to see what everyone thinks. I have been developing a product for some time. I wanted to see if I can get a launch boost from youtubers? Iv seen youtubers mentioning products that got sent to them. Now I do believe in my product. How should I approach them? Is Payment involved? How does it work? Any advice would help thanks

Whew man... I'm afraid that is a bit of a loaded question. It's likely going to differ depending on the individual YouTuber.

For the largest of YouTubers you are likely going to need to get in tough with some form of manager, who will give you an idea of price and it will be a lot (obviously). Of course they will need to determine whether it goes against any pre-existing contracts they may have, and whether the creator even wants to do it.

For mid-tier (100k - 2M) same deal, but you'll likely be dealing with the individual in most circumstances. Just email them and open the conversation. May require multiple attempts to get ahold of them.

For YTers in the 10k-100k you will find them far easier to negotiate with, but understand at this stage of the game they have likely come across a lot of recent scams and will likely be wary. You will need to pay for their service, though less than the bigger guys. Be straightforward in your approach and proposal.

For smaller creators you are going to pay far less, but you may get a more passionate presentation from them. I have worked with several brands and because I am trying to make a name for myself I made sure to go above and beyond with EVERY opportunity I was presented. If they want a video they get three, that sort of thing. This is actually where a lot of brands find the most value in representation. Micro-influencers are a growing trend. It won't be hard to find people at this level who are willing to work hard and they are most likely to do it for the product you offer. And if not they are not going to cost near as much nor will they require all the hassle. Get yourself one of these guys who knows a thing or two about SEO and you will get a much more long-term return in your investment!

It depends on what the product is. If it's a digital product, you're going to want to develop a relationship, and develop trust as there's been a lot of issues with "sponsorships" leading to hacked channels. The sad part about that is I KNOW there are genuine start ups looking to develop a relationship with creators, but because of some bad eggs, it makes developing trust more difficult.

If it's a PHYSICAL product, it's a little differant, but you still want to approach it carefully and respectfully. For example, Deity microphones, some phone case manufacturers and a new editing developer have been interacting in the twitter community, not fully promotional way, just discussing things. I do think Twitter would be a good way to start developing trust, as well as your channel. Eventually you'll start growing a small fanbase/community that you can start to leverage with sponsor partnerships. I knew a few creators now have partnered with small start ups simply because there was community interaction without any hard sales.

IF you can manage it, I'd also suggest (when Covid19 is OVER) to go to events, summits, things like vidcon, vidsummit etc where they sometimes have Industry showcases, so people from various industries get to show off their products, and develop relationships.

At the end of the day, I think the key is relationships. Payment is enticing, but before offering payments, or even sponsorship spots, you want to develop a relationship.

Have a look at the "Switch Pod" and watch how that product was developed and launched with influencers.

that video should help further in how to approach things :)

It is cool that you've reached out our community for help on how to go about this :) it shows you want to do whats right for others and for your product.
