@blackbeltsecrets is right, you have to master storytelling. The way I do it on my channel is Documentary Storytelling. Yes, there is actually a book on the subject.

Yeah I am all in on the storytelling aspect of a video. You need to hook your audience, and you need to present them a story. You can Google simple storytelling techniques and implement these into your videos and it will make a difference on your retention, especially if done well.
