I am a PC guy but there are plenty of people who use Macs or even their phones to edit videos. It comes down to preference but PC's seem to have the most software options. Insofar as the specs of a system, you buy as much as you can afford. It doesn't matter what people recommend if someone can't afford it.

But I like at least 16 GB RAM, Windows 10, and an Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen CPU. But a lot of people will not be able to afford the top CPU's so people will have to settle.

It can depend on your editing software. My new PC is sold as a gaming rig and has a beefed up graphics card... and my editing software uses mostly CPU, not GPU. For video editing, with my software, this is not the best PC.

The local drive takes big hits too which is why I have gone all SSDs. Everything runs better with SSDs. Hard for me to go back to Hard drives.

Yeah, I am on SSD as well. My PC works fine for video editing, it is just too bad my editing software is CPU intensive, and pretty much ignores the GPU. When I render a video the CPU runs at 80-90% and gets to 150-160F. (Normal is 15% and 100F)

You have a smoking rig there! More computing power than most average users including myself.

For price and quality I have to ship computers from the US, so I let my ex pick it out for me (she manages a big box computer store). I like to buy the best I can afford and keep it until it falls apart - my last PC was 12 years old when it finally died. This was a nice upgrade (but still an i7).

It depends on the application or software you want to use. For example if you are using adobe software then off course you need a reliable device. contrarily, if you want to use any application like Alight Motion then you might need a basic.
