Opinion Becoming a content creator has changed my YouTube viewing habits.

I'm not anywhere near monetized yet. (Working towards it) But I have changed how I watch YouTube videos. I still have quite a few channels that I watch, some for knowledge, some for entertainment. Some of them are even some of you guys and gals! (No, I'm not telling) I used to watch YouTube with an adblocker in place. Since I've started creating my own content, I took the adblocker off and I don't skip ads either. I might be off in another window doing something else while the ad plays, but I let every ad play all the way through. I figure it's the least I can do for a content creator who has produced something that interests me. If it's an ad from a company I don't like or want to support, I let it play anyway. I look at it as forcing that company to pay someone for making something I like.

Anyone else do this?

I don't. I installed adblocker back in the 90s, mostly because gaming sites were full of the annoying porn site pop-up ads. I never saw any reason to remove adblocker - even as a creator. I had a subscriber complain about me having ads and I told them to get an adblocker ha ha. It does not bother me a bit.

I honestly did not know YT added ads, until I heard people complain about it - and as far as I know FB has no ads either...

I commend you my man, I do the same. Even though I don't think a single person here would say the adds are the best bit of youtube :joy:

I will mention what viewing habbit changed for me when I started youtube a few years back. I started going against the youtube algorithm to seek out smaller channels. I think you feel the same when you get the rush of someone in the same boat as you making better content. Makes you want to improve. Also these channels, on the most part, Feel like they put more feeling in their content which translates to substance.

If you can't give them money yourself, might as well pay them in ad revenue :)

I, on the other hand, am a bit more like @Tito Tim. I don't like ads and I'd rather block them, but since last year, I've done it via Youtube Premium. So at least I'll skip the ads, but I'm still giving my favorite youtubers that sweet, sweet premium revenue.

Like many, I too hate ads and blocked them everywhere the moment I figured out how to. But I can relate to @RazzBarlow because I also felt if I was gonna be a content creator that could benefit from the very ads system I dislike on Youtube that it would be fair for me to turn off the ad blocker for Youtube. However, most of the content I consume from Youtube I consume it from my Nvidia Shield tablet or my Nvidia Shield TV connected to my big screen 4k TV so ad blockers don't work on there without installing some kind of an app that does that but I have yet to find one that actually works. So, I let the ads play unless I hit the skip button.

I believe having a Puerto Rico IP kinda frees me from getting so many ads. I wish I could afford Premium, not that it's available here either. Ads aren't too bad on Youtube these days though. Most are 30 secs or less, skippable and sometimes funny. I gave up watching TV because of the ads and it's why I pay for the higher tier on Hulu to skip most of the ads and why I love Netflix, no ads.

I create content for logical solution purposes & rarely watch ads unless they are really interesting to me & that particular topic.

Kudos :innocent:
I run an AdBlocker as well, but whitelist YT.
I'm the same as you and make the advertisers I don't like pay for my viewing.
On channels I like, I also let the Videos run full length, comment and like to support them.
Even further to that. If I'm about to log off, I log off from a channel I don't like. (usually from the suggested list) So it doesn't hurt their algorithm.

Similar to @Ikerot I have premium that helps me support the creators I watch. I think it's a good thing to do! I also like the inclusion of memberships and superchats to help creators even more :D

Funny: Everyone hates ads, but everyone wants beaucoups of ad revenue, lol!
Does not bother me a bit. I make vids as for myself. If I make money - great. If I do not - great. As long as it is fun. Plus, me watching ads or not does not affect if anyone else watches ads. I have not watched ads on TV since DVR first came out. Why would the interwebs be any different?

hehe! My mom has a 1957 Chevy. Yeah, it's the four door version, straight 6 with the Powerglide tyranny. I keep wanting her to put 350 small block in that thing and turn it into a ghetto cruiser! "No, no! Keep it original. That's how you win trophies!"
